Gavin was able to compete in his first Pinewood Derby in January. We would like to say that this was uneventful, but it wasn't. The night before the derby, the scouts had weigh-ins. Gavin was super pumped to check out all the cars and go through a practice run. Well, while standing in line to get his car weighed, he dropped it. The car's wheel broke off. He was immediately in tears. Casey and I talked and decided that we needed to leave to see if we could fix his car...or make a new one...all in less than 24 hours. We were off to Michaels and decided that a new car was needed. Thank goodness they have a whole section of Pinewood Derby cars and accessories. Daddy worked his magic by putting together a whole new car. I put the finishing touches on the car and it was completely finished the next morning, just in time to race. He did really well and now knows what to expect for next year. He already has plans in the works for what next year's car will look like.
