The first thing I must mention while playing this 'catch up' game is how quickly my children grow and change. Holy cow! Gavin looks so young in these pictures! Moving on. Gavin goes through phases. He finds something that interests him and boy does he (obsess) about it. He asks every question there is to ask, reads all the books and watches all the shows. He first fell in love with all things ocean. We used to joke that he should have been raised at the beach. He loved anything and everything that was related to the water. Don't get me wrong, he still does. He has just broadened his interests a bit.
Native Americans and arrowheads.
This was all he talked about for months. He had a pow wow birthday party, we stopped on our way to Ohio to search for arrowheads (the things we do for our children) and he built countless teepees in the backyard. He was determined to survive in the wild when he grew up. ;)
Lee used to say that there was a Nansemond Indian Pow-wow that took place in Suffolk every year. He always talked about how he wanted to take Gavin and he never got that chance. Mom decided that she wanted to make it happen...for Lee. The look on Gavin's face, pretty much the whole time we were there, was priceless. Lee sure did know his "Little Cloudy" and how special this would be.

THIS.
This was so amazing to see. We watched in awe as the Nansemond descendants entered a roped off area. Music played and they danced around in a circle wearing the most amazing 'costumes' and makeup. This was so neat to see. I feel it's important to mention that it was like 100 degrees on this particular day. It was so hot. I can't even imagine how they must have felt in all those layers!
Some didn't wear as many layers and this bothered Emerson quite a bit. ;)
This child doesn't stay still and speechless often.
After the pow-wow.
We love you PawPaw. Thank you Nana for making this happen.
